HE-RYT 200 Yoga Alliance Certified Instructoreather Stoken has been teaching Yoga since 2007. She enjoys teaching in schools and studios throughout beautiful Portland, OR. In 2013 Heather trained in Yoga Tune Up®, which has helped to bring a deeper element of self care, body awareness and play to her teaching. It is with thoughtfulness and enthusiasm that she helps each student feel a deeper and more empowered connection to the way their body moves.

DIY Facial Moisturizer Recipe for Fall

I invite you to “Fall” in love with this secret, natural facial formula that I’ve gathered from my favorite herbalist Rosemary Gladstar, with my own personal twist. It’s wonderfully moisturizing for the changing weather & best of all, you know exactly what you are putting on your skin! Ingredients: 2/3 cups distilled or Rose Water 1/3 cup Aloe Vera gel A few drops of essential oil–pick your favorite scent (I like to use lavender) 1/3 cup coconut oil (1) 3/4 cup apricot oil* (1) 3/4 oz beeswax, finely grated (1) 1 teaspoon grapefruit seed extract (1) * could also use jojoba or almond oil for slightly thicker lotion I know it’s along list, once you gather everything it’s easy! Heat all (1) ingredients slowly on a double broiler at low temperature, until just melted Pour heated oil into your blender or food processor & let cool until room temperature Turn blender on, slowly add water/aloe/essential oil (about 15 drops) to mixture over time as blending. Mix until it is white and fluffy (the water and oil combine, or ” emulsification” takes place which means you’re all done!) Slather on face day or night for a fabulous, moisturizing effect! Introducing Our Retreat Chef, Lidia Berhane

  Meet your chef! Lidia will be preparing all of our delicious & nourishing meals at the upcoming February retreat in Hawaii. Check out my  informal interview & get the scoop on her love of food and cooking below. Heather: You are an interesting and inventive lady, What made you decide you use your creativity and drive to become a chef? Lidia: Well, growing up, my family owned several East African restaurants in the East Bay. I  got to spend a lot of time around food was inspired by the taste. I really enjoy eating and trying many different types of food so it seems natural for me to work with food. H: What are your favorite foods to eat? L: I like to eat everything. No Seriously…just say really fresh fish, mmm you can beat fresh fish. H: Well whatʼs your favorite thing to make? L: Lasagna. All from scratch. Did you know Africa was controlled by Italy for 30 years, yeah, so there is actually a lot of good Italian food in parts of Africa. H: Really? I didn’t know that, but I would like you to make me lasagna sometime…Tell me about the kitchen you run right now, I think thatʼs really interesting. L: Living well bistro. Itʼs raw, all vegan and actually in a hospital- (first of itʼs kind in the country). We promote a positive and healthy nutrition in a place that really needs it. Itʼs awesome. H: Anything else we should know? L: I mix fun with cooking. Iʼll make you calories and burn them off by making you laugh. I know my way around a kitchen! H: Thanks Lidia!
